Hello yoga community & happy 2017 to all!  As we bid adieu to 2016 we thank the universe for the blessings, lessons and moments that the passing year has bestowed upon us, and we look forward to what 2017 has to offer.  For us at Yoga Light Studio, this month marks our first anniversary and many exciting things to share!

Daily Schedule Updates

With the growth of the studio and based on our students’ feedback, we continue to add new classes. The latest additions/class changes are:

– Ashtanga Mix (All Levels) with Lisa Novembre: Wednesday’s, 5:30-6:30pm

WORKSHOPS
Start the new year off right with one of the special workshops that we’ve scheduled for this month.
Guided Meditation & Intention Setting Workshop with Amanda: Sunday, January 8, 2017, 7-8:15pm

In this 75 minute guided meditation workshop, you will be led through an accessible and down-to-earth approach to a meditation practice. Set intentions for the New Year, and work on creating and manifesting your vision of life. Start with a relaxing 30 minute yin session to unravel the spine and soften the hips. Then, Amanda will take you through a guided meditation, teaching you skills that you can take home with you. This will all be done in a relaxing, candle-lit room.

Students must sign up in advance to attend.

Investment: $30.00+HST per person. 15% off for Yoga Light Members with an unlimited membership (not including New Student Special).

Yoga for Every Body with David Bruni: Tuesdays, January 17-February 7, 2017

Yoga is for every body. The physical practice of yoga helps to improve flexibility & strength, calm the mind, and improve overall health, but it’s not just for those who may already be strong or flexible. If you experience limited mobility, are recovering from an injury, have a specific physical issue, or have never practiced yoga before, this 4-part series of classes would be perfect for you! The classes will be slow-paced, and will be tailored to suit the individual needs of participants. Participants will be in experienced and well-trusted hands for these classes, which will be led by renowned yoga instructor David Bruni, who has practised yoga for over 35 years. David is also a shiatsu massage therapist, and has exceptional knowledge of the human body. He has taught and helped students of all levels, ages and abilities. This is your perfect opportunity to start yoga and see where it takes you!

Yoga for Men Workshop with David Bruni: Thursdays, January 12-February 16, 2017, 8-9pm

This 6-week course is designed to introduce male students to the physical practice of yoga in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner, and in a manner designed specifically for the male body. A smaller class size allows for more individual attention, detailed instructions (including modifications for all needs and abilities), hands-on adjustments, and questions.

At the end of this workshop students will be prepared to transition into our regularly scheduled classes, and will be equipped with the knowledge of how to modify postures for their specific body types, within a regular class setting. First-timers welcome.

Investment: $110.00+HST, for 6 weeks or $100.00+HST for 5 weeks per person. 15% off for returning participants, and Yoga Light Studio members with an unlimited monthly package (excluding new student special). Due to limited availability, please pre-register to guarantee your spot.

Intro to Yoga with David Bruni: Saturday, January, 28, 2-4pm

This is a 1 day 2-hour intensive workshop.  It is designed to introduce new students to the physical practice of yoga in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner. A smaller class size allows for more individual attention, detailed instructions (including modifications for all needs and abilities), hands-on adjustments, and questions.

Intro to Yoga is great for those with little or no experience, as well as continuing students interested in reviewing the basics and reconnecting to the fundamentals of the practice!

Investment: $40 + HST. Due to limited availability, please pre-register to guarantee your spot.

Restorative Yoga Workshop with Christina Frondella: Sunday, January 29, 7-8:30pm

Restorative yoga works to bring neutrality to the body. Each pose is fully supported by props (such as bolsters, blocks, blankets etc.) and held for longer periods of time, allowing the body to release tension and stress. Leave this workshop feeling relaxed and renewed. Space fills up quickly and is limited, so be sure to register in advance at the studio or online.

First Annual Holiday Food Drive
With all of the blessings the universe has given us, we know it’s our duty to give back and support those around us. Let’s help everyone enjoy the holidays by providing food to those in need. Between December 1-21 we will be collecting non-perishable food items to give to the Vaughan Food Bank. Come by and leave your donation in the Food Drive basket at the entrance of the studio.  Every bit counts!
Intro to Acroyoga Workshop with Super Dave! Sunday, December 11, 1-3pm

In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of Acroyoga, a practice that fuses partner acrobatics with partner yoga. The basics covered in this workshop will make it accessible to all – complex looking partner poses and sequences will feel challenging yet doable. You’ll come away with a better appreciation for the power of partner work in the understanding of your own body and how working with others can accelerate your personal practice. Bring your cameras, so you can capture yourself in flight! No experience or partners necessary.

We are sharing our most recent newsletter as we approach cooler temperatures, shorter days, and falling leaves.  We hope that this time for you includes someyoga, and perhaps a workshop that will allow you to explore something new and grow your practice.

Yoga For EVERY body – New Workshop

We are delighted to announce our newest workshop – Yoga For EVERY body.

Yoga is for everybody. The physical practice of yoga helps to improve flexibility & strength, calm the mind, and improve overall health, but it’s not just for those who may already be strong or flexible.  It’s for all of us, regardless of age, body type or physical limitations, and this workshop is the next step in our mission to have everyone practice yoga.

If you experience limited mobility, are recovering from an injury, have a specific physical issue, or have never practiced yoga before, this 4-part series of classes would be perfect for you!  The classes will be slow-paced, and will be tailored to suit the individual needs of participants.  At the conclusion of the series, participants will be able to transition into classes on the regular schedule – as an incentive, all unlimited packages for participants will be available at 20% off the regular price!

Participants will be in well-trusted hands for this series, which will be led by renowned yoga instructor David Bruni, who has practised yoga for over 35 years.   David is also a shiatsu massage therapist, and has exceptional knowledge of the human body. The first half of this workshop will break down some basic techniques employed in the foundational asanas of the Sun Salutations. This portion will allow for dialogue between teachers and students to allow clarity and individual attention. The second half of this workshop will focus on Trishtana. Tristhana means the three places of attention or action: Asana, Breathing, and Dristi. When practiced simultaneously, the Tristhana method becomes a tool to steady the mind transforming the physical practice into a moving meditation. This workshop is ideal for beginners who are trying to get a better sense of sun salutations, and for seasoned practitioners who are feeling “stuck” in their practice.

The Art of Dowelling and Yoga with David Bruni on Saturday, October 22, 2 – 4pm
Treat yourself to two hours of Doweling/self-massage and yoga in this innovative workshop created by the very wise David Bruni.  This workshop will focus on highly effective, yet very simple techniques to quickly soften the muscles and tendons and sooth the superficial nervous system. Doweling is a form of self-therapy used to loosen layers of tension and stress that lie beneath the surface of the skin. The sensations created by the dowel are similar to receiving a massage, but you remain in control of the pressures applied.

The Art of Lifting with Mark Morra on Sunday, November 20, 12-2pm
Lifting is a collective effort requiring several muscle groups to be engaged simultaneously. The practitioner’s effort and concentration is intensified, and the end product is light and graceful. This workshop will examine the muscle groups that work together to create a stronger practice with a greater sense of alignment, proper technique, and eventually some lightness. This workshop is ideal for all levels of practice.

Daily Schedule Updates & New Instructors

We’ve listened to your feedback to update the schedule with some new instructors, new class times and new class types, effective September 1st!  Here are a few highlights:

* NEW Ashtanga Class Monday evenings at 6pm, with Mark Morra

Starting September 12th, you will be able to practice Ashtanga in a reduced-heat setting with Mark Morra, every Monday at 6pm.  Don’t miss this opportunity to be led and assisted in this practice by Mark, who is always so insightful, compassionate and motivating.

NEW Guided Meditation Classes Wednesday evenings at 6pm with Amanda Vitaro

We are delighted to welcome Dave Ung, a formidable instructor who will definitely challenge and inspire you with his classes!  Dave is a certified yoga instructor who teaches a variety of yoga styles, and this year he created the very first acro yoga teacher training in Toronto. You can now practise with Dave at the Yoga Light Studio every Wednesday at 9:30am (power vinyasa) and 12pm (vinyasa).

* NEW Instructor Daniel Wiener Joins Yoga Light!

Daniel has been practicing yoga for many years and holds a number of yoga teacher training qualifications.  With a background in athletics and fitness training, Daniel has a strong understanding of the body and difficulties that can arise from injury, aging and natural wear and tear. Daniel has also trained in yoga therapy to assist with recovery from acute short & long term injuries, pain management and degenerative problems. You can now practise with Daniel at the Yoga Light Studio every Monday at 12:15pm!

Lifting is a collective effort requiring several muscle groups to be engaged simultaneously. The practitioner’s effort and concentration is intensified, and the end product is light and graceful. This workshop will examine the muscle groups that work together to create a stronger practice with a greater sense of alignment, proper technique, and eventually some lightness. This workshop is ideal for all levels of practice.

Upcoming Workshops

 

We have some great workshops in store for the coming weeks: 

Knees, Hips, and Twists – Sunday, April 24 (12-2pm)

In almost every yoga asana, there is movement in the hips requiring some form of stabilization. Twisting deepens the release of tension in the fascia as well as stimulates the digestive organs. This 2 hour workshop, led by the very wise Mark Morra, will explore the relationship between the hips and twists, using specific muscle groups and safe techniques. 

The Knees, Hips, and Twists Workshop is $30.00+HST. Sign up online or in studio. 

Intro to Yoga Workshop – Saturday, May 7 (2-4pm) 

 

Our Intro to Yoga workshop is coming back on May 7! Taught by our most experienced instructor, David Bruni, this 2-hour intensive course introduces students to the physical practice of yoga in a slow and comprehensive manner. The smaller class size allows for more individual attention, including modifications for all needs and abilities. Great for those with little or no experience at all, as well as students interested in reviewing the basics.

The Art of Dowelling and Yoga – Saturday, May 14 (2-4pm)

 

Treat yourself to two hours of dowel self-massage and yoga. During this innovative workshop created by David Bruni, you will learn how to reduce muscle tension and alleviate discomfort using a dowel and your own body weight. Dowling is a form of self-therapy used to lessen tension and stress that lies beneath the surface of the skin. The sensations created by the dowel are similar to receiving a massage, but you remain in control of the pressure applied.  And with 2 hours to work with, David will be able to address more than what’s possible during a led class, so don’t miss out! All equipment will be provided.

Yoga for Cyclists and Runners – Saturday, May 28 (2-4pm)

 

Through this workshop, led by avid cyclist David Bruni, runners and cyclists alike will work on releasing muscles, tendons, and connective   tissue that become tense and stiff over time through the activities of cycling or running. Yoga postures will be used to help increase flexibility, strength, balance, and mobility of the body. Students will leave feeling connected with their body, mind, and breath, and more ready than ever to ride or run.

 We are happy to advise that we will be running two Kids’ Yoga Classes during March Break! Ages 4-13 are welcome:

March Break Youth Yoga Special

For the week of March Break, youths ages 12-17 can attend any class between March 14-18 for just $15.00 per class (plus HST). Interested in more? We are also offering youth ages 12-17 a 4 Class Pass for just $50.00 (plus HST) that can be used any weekday during March Break! 

(Youth 4-Class Pass is valid between March 14-18.  Must be 16 years of age or older to attend heated classes. Parent/guardian must sign waiver.)

Doweling Workshop with David Bruni

Saturday, February 27, 2-4pm
