WORKSHOPS:

 Learn To Take Flight – with Lisa Pisano

This arm balance workshop is appropriate for students of all levels, regardless of whether or not your feet have ever left the ground in a yoga pose. In this fun and exhilarating workshop, students will learn how to lift off with mindfulness and ease. Various poses such as Bakasana (crow pose), Parsva Bakasana (side crow), Astavakrasana (eight angle pose), and Eka Pada Koundinyasana will be explored. Arm balances strengthen the muscles, bones and joints of the hands, arms, chest, shoulders, back and abdominals. They also increase blood flow to these parts of the body. The mind becomes more focused and content when yogic flight is achieved. This playful and challenging workshop will focus on building upper body strength as well as deep core work which are required in all arm balance poses. Learn what it feels like to balance your body with your feet off the ground. Are you ready to fly?

Restorative Yoga – with Jeanette Keir

Restorative yoga works to bring neutrality to the body. Each pose is fully supported by props (such as bolsters, blocks, blankets etc.) and held for longer periods of time, allowing the body to release tension and stress. The workshop is mat based and incorporates therapeutic elements of hands-on assists, massage and aromatherapy in a safe, calming environment. Restorative yoga works to create balance between the body and the mind through the use of breath work and poses aimed at opening the body and relaxing the nervous system. The aim is to leave you feeling relaxed and renewed. Class size will be limited to 8 people to ensure maximum attention to participants. All levels welcome, no yoga experience required.

Intro to Yoga – Instructor TBA

This workshop is designed to introduce new students to the physical practice of yoga in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner. A smaller class size (maximum 6 participants) allows for more individual attention, detailed instructions (including modifications for all needs and abilities), hands-on adjustments, and questions. Intro to Yoga is great for those with little or no experience, as well as continuing students interested in reviewing the basics and reconnecting to the fundamentals of the practice! At the end of this workshop students will be prepared to transition into our regularly scheduled classes. This course may also be repeated.

Yoga for Every Body – Instructor TBA

Yoga is for EVERY body. The physical practice of yoga helps to improve flexibility & strength, calm the mind, and improve overall health, but it’s not just for those who may already be strong or flexible. If you experience limited mobility, are recovering from an injury, have a specific physical issue, or have never practiced yoga before, this 4-part series of classes would be perfect for you! The classes will be slow-paced, and will be tailored to suit the individual needs of participants.  Class-size will be limited to 5 students, to ensure individual attention. This is your perfect opportunity to start yoga and see where it takes you!

Living Meditation – with Amanda Vitaro

During meditation, the individual trains the mind to acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content.
Living Meditation is an approach that can aid anyone who is looking to make the most out of life or navigate challenges on their path. Whether you’re ready to start a rigorous daily 45 minute practice or just learn some tools to shift your mood when you need to, Living Meditation is an excellent resource. The essential factor of Living Meditation is its application to conscious living. People learn to go deep in their sitting practice and transform their experience of themselves so they can apply the fruits of their practice in their relationships, work and life.  Learning the techniques of Living Meditation will facilitate the creation of a beautiful life for yourself and those around you. In the workshop, you will use modern and ancient techniques to dig really deep within to observe, learn, heal and find freedom. It’s like ripping yourself open and pulling yourself apart, to become whole and free. It’s intense, it’s work, and it can get hard. This is not meant to deter you, it’s meant to open your eyes to a new, dedicated way of living your life. 
 In this workshop, Amanda will start with the basic fundamentals of meditation, and progressively work through more advanced and deeper forms of meditation. She will introduce techniques that will teach you to heal yourself, and embrace the ups and downs of life from a new and fresh perspective.
This is the first module.   Each module will consist of 4 weekly sessions, and there will be breaks in between each module.  No prior meditation experience required.
Bring: A journal/notebook, a pen, a yoga mat or meditation cushion (something comfortable to sit on), and your lovely self.

Yoga for Men – with David Bruni 

This 6-week course is designed to introduce male students to the physical practice of yoga in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner, and in a manner designed specifically for the male body. A smaller class size allows for more individual attention, detailed instructions (including modifications for all needs and abilities), hands-on adjustments, and questions.
At the end of this workshop students will be prepared to transition into our regularly scheduled classes, and will be equipped with the knowledge of how to modify postures for their specific body types, within a regular class setting. First-timers welcome.
Dates: Thursdays September 7 to October 12 2017, 8-9pm
Investment:  $115 + HST (for all 6 sessions, no class passes or drop-ins).

Special Series: Family Yoga*

Enjoy these classes With Your Children!
Our Family Yoga Classes incorporate postures, movement and breathing exercises that help to strengthen coordination and awareness for kids, teens and adults.  The class will be accessible to all levels, and modifications will be offered to ensure that everyone is challenged throughout the class!
Yoga helps to enhance physical strength, flexibility, concentration, mindfulness, confidence and self-esteem.  It’s the perfect activity to enjoy as a family!
All levels welcome, no yoga experience required.
Dates: Wednesdays, 8-9pm
Investment: Adults $20 or $15 for auto-renew members / Children $10 (includes HST).  Limit one parent/guardian per 3 children

Special Series: Acro Yoga* – with Dave Ung

Acro yoga is a practice that fuses partner acrobatics with partner yoga. The basics covered in this class will make the sessions accessible to all: complex looking partner poses and sequences will feel challenging yet doable. You will come away with a better appreciation for the power of partner work in the understanding of your own body, and how working with others can accelerate your personal practice.

Please note that workshop payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.   Payment must be made in full to reserve your spot. Cancellations may be made 48 hours or more prior to the commencement of the workshop, and will be subject to a 25% administration fee. No cancellations 48 hours or less prior to commencement of workshop. Yoga Light Studio reserves the right to cancel any workshop for any reason at its sole discretion, in which case, any payments made will be fully refunded.
